  16.        Please read all of this file.  It contains important information.

  18.        ClickDOS is  my entry into the ever-growing  number of "directory
  19.        utility"  programs.    I  wrote  the  original ClickDOS primarily
  20.        because of my frustrations with other directory utility programs.
  21.        ClickDOS  has  been  and  continues  to be a successful shareware
  22.        venture  for  me.    I  thank  each  and  every  person  who  has
  23.        contributed to  the project.   I  hope you all have enjoyed using
  24.        ClickDOS.

  26.        If you  are new  to ClickDOS, I know that directory utilities are
  27.        a dime-a-dozen,  but  take  a  moment  to  look  (and  play with)
  28.        ClickDOS II. I think you will like it. Many others have found the
  29.        original  program  useful and I  think  this  one is even better.
  30.        Here are some of the things which I think make ClickDOS II better
  31.        than other directory utilities:
  32.  
  33.        - ClickDOS II is reasonably small  (for  what  it  does):  57K on
  34.        disk, 74K  in memory  while it is iconified, 110K while its window
  35.        is fully open. 
  36.  
  37.        - It uses a single window on  the Workbench  screen which  can be
  38.        iconified  so  it  doesn't  gobble  up your chip memory nor waste
  39.        memory with bells and whistles.
  40.  
  41.        - It does not rely on other programs for  most of  its functions.
  42.        Type and  Show functions,  for example, are built-in.  This makes
  43.        these functions much faster to use.
  44.  
  45.        - ClickDOS II's data structures are dynamically  allocated and it
  46.        uses Fast  memory for  everything it  can.   Therefore, it's very
  47.        memory efficient.
  48.  
  49.        - ClickDOS II's gadget and mouse  controls  are,  in  my opinion,
  50.        very logical and easy to use.

  53.        This  disk  contains  the  latest  and  vastly  improved   second
  54.        generation of the ClickDOS utility -  ClickDOS II  version  2.00.
  55.        ClickDOS II V2.00 is a MAJOR upgrade of the  popular ClickDOS  II
  56.        V1.10.  Just about every suggestion  I have  received   has  been 
  57.        incorporated into ClickDOS II V2.00 along with many new  features
  58.        which I have been planning for some time.   I  could not possibly
  59.        list all of the new features here.   Therefore, I   recommend  to
  60.        everyone, even experienced users of ClickDOS, read  the document-
  61.        ation thoroughly to  see what ClickDOS II  can do for  you.  Here 
  62.        are some of the major enhancements to this version:

  78.        This version REQUIRES the V1.3 arp.library.  If you received  this
  79.        distribution of ClickDOS II V2.00 on an original distribution disk
  80.        from the author then the arp.library is included on this disk.  If
  81.        you received ClickDOS II V2.00 in some  other  way  including  the
  82.        original distribution archive file from the author, you  will have
  83.        to supply arp.library.   You  can  find  the  arp.library  on BIX,
  84.        PeopleLink, and Compuserve along with the full release of ARP.
  85.        The  ARP  license  does  not  allow  the  arp.libary  file  to  be 
  86.        distributed in archive files.

  152.        Included  with  this  version  of  ClickDOS II are the previously
  153.        released  versions  of ClickDOS  and  ClickDOS II.  If  for  some
  154.        reason  you  do  not  like  the  current  version  try one of the
  155.        previous versions.  Please  note that  there are two  versions of
  156.        ClickDOS which were released:
  157.  
  158.          ClickDOS V2.04      and
  159.          ClickDOS II V1.00
  160.  
  161.        which contained serious  bugs.   If  you  have  either  of  these
  162.        versions you  should  replace  them immediately.   They  are  not
  163.        included with this distribution.

  166.        THE DISTRIBUTION ARCHIVE FILE
  167.  
  168.        Obviously in you are reading this you have already unarchived  the
  169.        archive file.   Hopefully, you unarchived  the archive  file in  a
  170.        directory by itself.  If you did not do this, then I recommend you
  171.        make a new directory and unarchive the file again  or copy all  of
  172.        files which came out of the archive to this directory.  Also,  you
  173.        should be sure the directory where you  unarchive  ClickDOS II  is
  174.        accessible from Workbench (i.e. has an icon)  and  that  the  disk
  175.        where you unarchived ClickDOS II has at least 200K of free  space.
  176.        Once you have all of the unarchived files in such a directory then
  177.        you should do the following assignment:
  178.  
  179.          ASSIGN ClickDOS_II: <directory where files are>
  180.  
  181.        Now you should do a CD command as follows:
  182.  
  183.          CD ClickDOS_II:
  184.  
  185.        Now you need to execute the archivefix script file:
  186.  
  187.          EXECUTE archivefix
  188.  
  189.        The archivefix script will restore the directory structure  needed
  190.        by the install program.  When it is  done  you  will  have  a  new
  191.        directory  called  ClickDOS_II  inside  the  directory  where  you
  192.        unarchived the archive file.  This directory has an icon.  If  you
  193.        double click on this icon you will see the icons for the  ClickDOS
  194.        II files.  Finish  reading  this  document  then read at least the
  195.        beginning of the ClickDOS II documentation file.  Then you can run
  196.        the install program as described in the ClickDOS II documentation.
  197.        The install will occur as  described  in  the documentation except
  198.        that the arp.library  file and Arun  file will  not  be  installed
  199.        because they are not included  with  the  archive distribution due
  200.        to licensing reasons.

  203.        LAST MINUTE UPDATES, TIPS & HINTS THAT DIDN'T MAKE THE MANUAL
  204.  
  205.        *  Even though the documentation says the full release of ARP will
  206.           accompany  ClickDOS  II  this   is   only   true  of  the  disk
  207.           distribution.  The full release of ARP is too large  to include
  208.           with the archive distribution.
  209.  
  210.        *  Although it is not  mentioned in  the  documentation  the  Arun
  211.           command is also installed into your C: directory by the INSTALL
  212.           script on the disk distribution only.  While it is not required
  213.           by ClickDOS II, you will  want to use this command if you start
  214.           ClickDOS II from the CLI.   See  the  documentation   for  more
  215.           information.
  216.  
  217.        *  If you select a large number of files to copy, delete,  or move
  218.           you can cancel these actions in  progress  by pressing  the ESC
  219.           key.  The action will be canceled  when  ClickDOS  II  finishes
  220.           the action on the current file.
  221.  
  222.        *  You can use ClickDOS II  to  rename a file to the same name but
  223.           with different case letters.  For example:
  224.  
  225.           RENAME  clickdos_ii to ClickDOS_II
  226.  
  227.        *  You can use MakeDir to create directories in subdirectories  of
  228.           the directory in a directory area by including the path to  the
  229.           subdirectory.  For example, if DOCS is a  subdirectory  of  the
  230.           directory  in  area  one,  you  can  create  a directory called
  231.           LETTERS in the  directory  DOCS  by  typing  into  the  MakeDir   
  232.           requester:  DOCS/LETTERS.
  233.  
  234.        *  When ClickDOS II starts it makes RAM:  its  current  directory.
  235.           So if you do any actions which refer  to the current  directory
  236.           they will access RAM:.  This is of most  significances to user-
  237.           defined  gadget  commands   which  may  reference  the  current
  238.           directory.  For example unarchiving a  file  into  the  current
  239.           directory will put the unarchived files in RAM:.
  240.  
  241.        *  To  get  the  NewCLI  action to open a new shell (rather than a
  242.           CLI) and have command line history work correctly you  need  to
  243.           make sure that if you specify a  console definition  after  the
  244.           SHELL command  in the ClickDOS-Startup, you specify the NEWCON:
  245.           device rather than the CON: device.   NEWCON:  is  what   gives
  246.           you command line history NOT NewShell.  For example:
  247.  
  248.           SHELL=NewShell CON:0/0/640/200/NewShell_Window;
  249.  
  250.           will give you a new shell but you will not  have  command  line
  251.           history.  You must use:
  252.  
  253.           SHELL=NewShell NEWCON:0/0/640/200/NewShell_Window;
  254.  
  255.           to get command line history.   Note, this is only true  if  you
  256.           are not using Conman.  And, of course, you  must  have  mounted
  257.           NEWCON:
  258.  
  259.        *  To get a CLI or shell started from ClickDOS II to have  correct
  260.           paths you need to do the  following  based  on  how  you  start
  261.           ClickDOS II.  If  you  start  ClickDOS II  from  your  startup-
  262.           sequence then place  your  path  statements  in  your  startup-
  263.           sequence BEFORE you start ClickDOS II.  If you  start  ClickDOS
  264.           II from the Workbench then you must put your path statments  in
  265.           the Shell-Startup or CLI-Startup  files  depending  on  if  you
  266.           have ClickDOS II  start a new shell or CLI.   If  you  want  to
  267.           be able to start ClickDOS II from your startup-sequence and you
  268.           want to be able to start ClickDOS II from  the  Workbench  then
  269.           put your path  statements in your  startup-sequence  AFTER  the
  270.           command to start ClickDOS II and also put the path  commands in
  271.           in the Shell-Startup or CLI-Startup files.
  272.  
  273.        *  If you specify a '~' as the prompt  for a %f CRA then  ClickDOS
  274.           II will  NOT open a  requester asking  for the name of  an item
  275.           if no items are selected.  For example:
  276.  
  277.           %f[f][~]
  278.  
  279.        *  This version of ClickDOS II will  only allow 30 character  file
  280.           and directory  names, and 79 character  comments to be  entered 
  281.           into requesters asking for such items.  These are  the  current
  282.           AmigaDOS limits.
  283.  
  284.        *  If you start ClickDOS II with the -i option so that it comes up
  285.           iconified,  ClickDOS  II will  NOT automatically  activate  its
  286.           window.
  287.  
  288.  
  289.        PRINTING THE ClickDOS_II.doc FILE
  290.  
  291.             The ClickDOS_II.doc file is formated to print on any standard
  292.        eighty character wide, sixty-six lines per page printer.  To print
  293.        it:
  294.  
  295.        1.  Make sure you  have the margins in Preferences set to zero for
  296.        the left and eighty for the right.
  297.  
  298.        2.  Position  your printer to the very  first line on the page and
  299.        set the top of form (TOF).  You can make sure that the top of form
  300.        is set correctly by turning the printer off and on.  Some printers
  301.        have a TOF button on the front panel.

  303.        3.  Copy the file to the printer using the command:
